In a Vase, on Monday – Goldenrod

When I set out yesterday to snip some flowers for a vase (joining Cathy at Rambling in the Garden), I fully intended to gather an armload of goldenrod (Solidago sp, it started to bloom about a week ago) and have spikes of Verbena bonariensis poking through the golden yellow cloud. The picture in my mind was quite lovely.However. We had storms rolling through all weekend that knocked things about and I wound up having to prune away extra long stalks of various flowers that were falling this way and that.

Our wet summer has made everything lush and larger/taller than normal. And so my vase of goldenrod became a vase of Dahlias, gladiolas, ironweed (Vernonia fasciculata,) and, oh yes, some goldenrod and Verbena.
